I was not successful on finding anyone from another country in our field to conduct the blogs with, but I will continue to look. So for now, I will use the World Forum Foundation Radio. Includes links to podcasts of conversations with early childhood professionals. I listened to the interview of TJ Skalski ; Principal of The Mother Earth’s Children’s Charter School (MECCS), the first Indigenous charter school in Canada. Originally from the Blood Reserve and raised in southern Alberta, she eventually left to complete her education, including a Masters of Education degree.
I enjoyed listening how she is fighting to preserve her native routes in her life and in her community.

Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI also viewed TJ Skalsi's podcast. I was interested in how she was dedicated to maintaining thier cultural identity while also mainstreaming education. I visited her website as well. Like you, and it seems most of our class, I have not been able to make contact with international eductators. I was hoping to hear back from one, it would have been interesting to have thier take on issues.

Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI too would have enjoyed hearing back from the international educators. Maybe we will hear from out least of of the educators that we contacted. :) I am knew to the education realm so it would have been interesting to see their takes on issues that we discuss.
Thanks for sharing. In terms of creating equality / equity in the early childhood field, what better place to start than with affirming a child's culture. A strong sense of well being begins with a positive sense of self and affirming children's culture conveys acceptance.
